Our Anniversary today and pictures of our Wedding on the cheap in Edinburgh festival.

An early post today as I'm hoping to do something today as it's our Anniversary. I thought I'd share with you our Wedding day as we did it on the cheap and had a wonderful day.

My dress above was £3500 but I bought it for £50 from a local charity shop.

We got married in this registry office in Edinburgh, it's a stunning building and the same price as the one in our local city. We stayed in the halls of residence the night before and that was a fabulous price which included an all you can eat breakfast. I couldn't eat much as the dress was a size 6. Those were the days!!

The side view of the registry office and we had the view of the Cathedral when we got married.

These lovely ladies were on a shopping trip when we hijacked them to be our witnesses. They thought we were part of the festival at first.

I've never seen the certificate since...........mmmmm?

View from the room.

The only picture of the back of my dress.

Lovely building

The registrar even took the pictures.

This building is so much posher than our local and they were so friendly and even came out and helped me squash my dress into the car.

We then went to Peebles and stayed in a lovely hotel which we found on late rooms for £80.

I still rolled my own fags back then..........tut tut

This is where we first met Honeymoon bear who we adopted and now lives on our bed at home.

I loved our Wedding day and although it cost under £500 we really did have a fabulous time. I love Edinburgh as my Dads side of the family are Scottish.

What I really loved was the day was all about us as we ran off on our own. We had a party when we got back but our Wedding day was spent stress free with no one to keep happy but ourselves.

Did you spend a lot on your Wedding dear reader?

PiC x

  1. That looks so romantic, Julee! Forget the cost (which you won't) you had the wedding many would envy. And I'll bet your witnesses will never forget it either.

  6. What a wonderful day, and what lovely pictures you have to remember it by.

Our wedding day was something similar ..... but without the fantastic dress, we wore new jeans and t shirts, and our witnesses were our VERY surprised parents. The registrar also took our photos :-)

And my Lovely Hubby was born and bred in Peebles and his family are still there ... what a coincidence.

    Happy Anniversary. xx

  7. We were 2nd timers, so our 3 children and our best friends couple were witnesses. we went for a drink in a pub on way home. Had a party in the eve. and only told people who asked why we were Partying. went for honeymoon in skegness with four children. It was very cheap as we wore daily clothes borrowed a ring and people brought food and drink to party. The caravan we holidayed in was free from my stepfather.so only cost petrol We had no photos but have lasted 32 yrs so not bad. Happy Anniversary to you both.

  13. We were married by a Judge, at a park, in the dark, (waiting for a witness - caught in rush hour traffic) on Halloween and in costume. Due to our 1 witness not showing up and losing light, I went door to door and found a lovely lady to be our other witness! We were determined to get married on Halloween and surely did not want to wait another whole year. Did not take in to consideration the time change - so that is why it was getting dark so early. Judge was writing a book about all of his experiences in his work and said we had made the book - ha! Don't know if he actually wrote it. It has not affected our life together - will be 19 years this October. Going strong - even will all the ups and downs. Very inexpensive - $50.00 to the Judge and later had dinner at restaurant with family. Grandfather in law insisted on paying. Lovely day all around. Ranee in Minnesota

    2. Ranee that sounds absolutely fabulous. I love Halloween and we would decorate for the whole month, even down the drive and all over the outside of the house. The kids are too old and it's classed as embarrassing now though.

I'm really envious of you and the 19 years x

  14. What a beautiful dress and a stunning figure. You make a lovely couple, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I remember that my wedding dress cost £16 new, my shoes were ones I already owned and I did my own hair on the day. The reception cost £1 a head and we had 38 guests (that was for a hot meal too!) We had no honeymoon to speak of just a couple of nights in a tiny guest house and were glad to come home..lol...

  15. Happy Anniversary!
My wedding cost quite a lot of money, but as we've been married for 30 years it's worked out at not very much per year! No honeymoon, just a day out to Blackpool Zoo - we had a very belated honeymoon this year when we went to Cornwall for our 30th anniversary!

    1. Thanks Floss, DH took that while I was looking for witnesses. No one would come near me as they thought I was an act for the Edinburgh festiveal lol.

We decide a lot of our family we wouldn't buy a bag of chips for so why would we buy them a sit down meal lol x

  20. What a fabulous wedding and that dress is amazing. You are absolutely gorgeous in the pics and what a truly personal day. The cost is amazing and well done. Most weddings are totally same-y no matter how much planning and individualising goes into them but you really broke the mould. Beautifully done, Julee.
